Iran and Oman announced agreement on a temporary shipping corridor through the Strait of Hormuz on 26 Aug, following talks in Tehran between Iranian FM Abbas Araghchi and Omani FM Badr Albusaidi. The two sides agreed on coordinates for new inbound and outbound corridors, with entry and part of the exit running through Iranian territorial waters — a departure from the Omani-hugging southern route established under the now-lapsed June MOU.
Iranian Deputy FM Kazem Gharibabadi stated explicitly that the agreement does not by itself reopen the waterway; full reopening remains conditioned on U.S. fulfillment of commitments under the lapsed interim peace deal. Implementation requires a separate decision by Iran’s senior leadership. The same day, a tanker linked to UAE operations was disabled by an unidentified projectile near Oman’s Ash Shishah, close to the strait’s entrance, per UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).

ISRAEL–LEBANON — STRIKES INTENSIFY OVER ALI AL-TAHER RIDGE DISPUTE
Israeli forces increased attacks on Hezbollah positions in south Lebanon over the reporting window, concentrated in the Nabatieh area around the strategic Ali al-Taher Ridge, while Hezbollah has targeted Israeli troops operating in the area. This reflects the central sticking point in the ongoing Rome-track ceasefire talks: Israel has demanded the Lebanese Army verify the absence of Hezbollah operatives and weapons on the ridge as a precondition for further Israeli withdrawal from south Lebanon.

MAGNET S2 published a standalone comparative analysis report (DTG 260828-0400Z) examining the 26 Aug State Department SDGT designation of Autistici/Inventati (A/I Collective), a European digital-infrastructure and secure-communications provider, against four prior MAGNET S2 products on Antifa-adjacent networks (JBGC, BAMN, Defend the 612, and the national Antifa overview).
Treasury’s designation notice names the PKK — a U.S. and EU-designated terrorist group — as a direct user of A/I’s services; separately, State’s release attributes use by Hamas/Hezbollah/IRGC/PIJ/PFLP to a third-party media user publishing on A/I-hosted infrastructure, not direct use by those groups — a meaningfully different evidentiary weight the report flags as a key distinction. A/I Collective issued a public denial via its Noblogs platform that does not specifically rebut either claim.
