MAGCON THREAT LEVEL DEFINITIONS

MAGCON (MAGNET Condition) determines and communicates the overall threat environment affecting MAGNET operations. When the MAGCON changes, MAGNET S2 will inform MAGNET Operators of the change via: Telegram, VarAC Broadcast and JS8Call.

MAGCON levels range from 5 (Routine) to 1 (Critical / Imminent).


MAGCON 5 — ROUTINE

Color: GREEN
Numeric Alias: 5
Meaning: Normal operations; no credible threat.

Typical indicators:

  • Background monitoring only

Communications posture: All communications permitted


MAGCON 4 — HEIGHTENED

Color: BLUE
Numeric Alias: 4
Meaning: Suspicious activity or trend noted; verify and monitor.

Typical indicators:

  • Credible but unconfirmed intelligence
  • Increase in threat-related chatter.

Communications posture: All communications permitted


MAGCON 3 — ELEVATED

Color: YELLOW
Numeric Alias: 3
Meaning: Specific threat possible against assets or personnel.

Typical indicators:

  • Verified intelligence
  • Arrests or disruptions
  • Localized unrest.

Communications posture: General traffic limited


MAGCON 2 — HIGH

Color: ORANGE
Numeric Alias: 2
Meaning: Likely attack or disruption within area of interest.

Typical indicators:

  • Coordinated plots
  • Active riots
  • Cyber intrusions underway

Communications posture: Mission traffic only


MAGCON 1 — CRITICAL / IMMINENT

Color: RED
Numeric Alias: 1
Meaning: Attack or major incident occurring or imminent.

Typical indicators:

  • Shots fired
  • Ongoing attack
  • Widespread system failure
