- Narrative: SUMMARY:
May 17, 2025 One person is dead and at least four are injured in the
desert oasis of Palm Springs, Calif., after a bomb exploded on Saturday
morning outside a fertility clinic, damaging buildings and leaving
windows shattered across several blocks in what authorities called a
terrorist attack.
A vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) is an explosive
device designed to be detonated in a vehicle, often used in terrorist
attacks to target people or buildings. These devices can be parked to
disguise the bomb or used in suicide attacks where the driver detonates
the bomb while driving towards a target.
ANALYSIS: While the motive is still under investigation the level of
sophistication of the device used is alarming. With open source
intelligence (OSINT) organizations reporting of possible mass-casualty
attacks on US soil by terrorists one must wonder if this bombing is a
precursor to the mentioned attacks.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Continue to be vigilant while watching for unusual
activity in public places such as: churches, shopping malls and
hospitals.
